fine art: renderings in gouache

The first image, Hounds Hunt, is based on French woodblock print wall paper designs from the 18th century. The artistic aim of this piece was to explore the contrasting techniques of ala prima painting (as seen with the dogs in the center) with a loose wet-on-wet technique commonly used in scenic painting (as seen in the surrounding foliage).

The second image, Oriental Fantasy, is a theoretical backdrop for one of Diaghilev Ballet Russes. It's aim was to capture the exotic splendor of the Ballet Russe through a color palette based entirely upon the coloration found in the peacock feather.

The third image is based on a Trompe L'oeil curtain from the Palias Garnier. This project explored the techniques of the old world Austrian scene painters. This piece was entirely initiated in a wet-on-wet process, and then refined and clarified with a wet-on-dry process.

The final piece is a study in watercolor.
